The introductions ran both ways. We set out what Innater does. Non-standard coating machines and automated lines, whole-line projects included. Material trials and acceptance are handled in house. The customer described their business and their market, and why they had come in person. As a coating machine manufacturer, opening the plant up first makes the rest easier.

Coating method first, then how a machine is specified around the material, then how the drying and winding sections get tuned. That order came from the customer, and the product line followed it. A whole line and a single machine are not the same job. The delivery boundary sits in a different place. Where a coating line manufacturer draws that boundary drew the sharpest questions of the day.

The customer laid their requirements out one by one. Application, material direction, target product and plans for the line all went on the table. Which figures are fixed and which are open came out as well. The question that took the most time was whether the old settings still count once the material changes. What an equipment supplier takes from that is what each figure means for the machine. A coating line supplier also has to know how the customer will accept the line. Some projects arrive through an OEM, with drawings and process held by the customer. A supplier that writes the numbers down properly saves a round of rework later.

Then everyone went into the workshop. Assembly, commissioning and finished goods were walked in production order. The customer stopped at a few machines and asked questions there.

Industries We Have Served

Battery work is the busiest, with large, medium and small builds, and a separate machine for solid-state cells. Solar and perovskite run on flat-bed coating, and semiconductor work covers photoresist and silver paste. Medical and aesthetic projects are the most varied, from injection needles and sutures to silicone gel, hydrogel and collagen film. Adhesives and tapes, waterproof and fire-retardant materials, functional films and release liners are in the same workshop. Once the industry list gets long, more can be settled at the proposal stage. Some figures mean a change in the machine, others only a process tweak. A manufacturer has the answers on hand, and the customer saves a detour at the selection stage.

Machines, From Lab Scale to Production

The lab side is small and complete. Flat-bed coaters handle trials, in standard and high-precision versions. Roll-to-roll laboratory coaters come in three builds, compact, extended and one with an oven. A medium laboratory coater covers small-batch runs. Single-station and dual-station slot-die coaters go mostly to medical materials and solar glass.

Production machines cover far more ground. Battery work runs from double-sided coating of cathode and anode materials to solid-state cells. A doctor blade and slot-die coater ships with a six-metre oven. A multi-function machine puts doctor blade, slot-die and micro-gravure modes on one frame. Comma blade, blade plus micro-gravure, UV, silver paste, aluminium foil, adhesive and fibreglass water-based adhesive coaters are each specified around the material. A coating machine manufacturer with this many builds has more room to move on a new material. A coating line manufacturer can put the options side by side. A machine builder narrows them down by output and material. The customer does not have to compare them one by one.

Ancillary Equipment and Custom Builds

Coating machines are not the whole list. Winding, haul-off, laminating and slitting can come with the line. Tape coating, slitting and rewinding machines, laminating machines and coating and laminating lines are all in the range. Testing instruments for needles, surgical blades, sutures, tensile strength and microbial penetration are built here too. An equipment supplier that covers these sections saves the customer from finding a second vendor.

Some projects are not a single machine. The customer may hold only the material, or want an old line rebuilt, and that work comes up often. Non-standard coating machines and non-standard automation are the two main lines. Proposal, trials, assembly, commissioning and acceptance all run through one coating line supplier. The self-check records kept before dispatch stay with the supplier, ready to be shown on request. On non-standard work, machine builders and customers settle the concept together. Nothing enters the workshop until both sides accept the same version.

The day's exchange ended there. Next comes a proposal built on the parameters the customer supplied, followed by a technical review. Some jobs run through an OEM, others come to a coating machine manufacturer directly. Both routes reach this point the same way. How well a machine builder and a customer understand each other is usually settled around the proposal.
